The Mirror of Growth
Thanks for joining us this Sunday!
The Mirror of Growth
Growth sounds good… until it actually starts changing you.
We all say we want to grow. To be wiser, more disciplined, more spiritually mature. But the moment that growth begins to show up in real decisions, real boundaries, and real change… it can suddenly become uncomfortable not just for us, but for the people around us.
This message reminds us that growth isn’t just personal… it’s reflective.
Like a mirror, your growth reveals something. Not because you’re trying to, but because that’s what growth does. It reflects truth. And when others see your change, it can cause them to look at their own lives in ways they may not be ready for.
Scripture shows us that trials, pressure, and even opposition are part of the process. God uses those things to develop endurance, build character, and strengthen our faith (Romans 5:3–4).
Sometimes the resistance we face isn’t because we’re doing something wrong… it’s because we’re actually growing.
As we grow in our relationship with God, gaining wisdom and understanding, our lives begin to produce fruit. The way we live starts to reflect Him more clearly (Colossians 1:9–10).
And that’s the goal… not just growth, but ongoing transformation into the likeness of Christ.
But here’s the tension:
Not everyone will celebrate the new version of you.
Some people are comfortable with who you used to be. And when you change, it challenges what they’ve chosen to stay the same. Your growth becomes a mirror, not because you’re attacking them, but because your life now reflects something different.
And just like a mirror, the issue isn’t the reflection… it’s what’s already there.
Even Jesus made people uncomfortable. His wisdom, His truth, His maturity… it exposed things in others. Some chose to grow from it. Others rejected it.
We’re faced with that same choice today.
Will we shrink back to keep people comfortable…
or will we continue growing into who God is calling us to be?
Because real growth will change you.
And following Jesus means choosing obedience over approval.
The beauty of it all is this…
As we look into the “mirror” of God’s Word, He transforms us. And as we are changed, we begin to reflect His glory to the world around us (2 Corinthians 3:17–18).
Growth isn’t about perfection.
It’s about becoming.
And we’re not meant to do it alone.
In community, we both reflect and receive… sharpening each other, encouraging each other, and helping each other grow.
So don’t run from the mirror.
Lean into it.
Because on the other side of growth is the person God created you to be.
