Return to Rest

Return to Rest by Mark Lutcher
Sunday Sermon Recap - July 21, 2024
Did you know that Sabbath rest is a blessing from God? It is! He has given us PERMISSION to rest weekly! Unfortunately, most of us either don’t rest properly or ignore rest completely. Listen, God wouldn’t command us to rest if He didn’t think that we NEEDED it. He permitted us to rest so that we can be in a good place spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally, to carry out His plans for our lives. Satan doesn’t want you to rest. He wants you to be so busy, burnt out, tired, stressed, overwhelmed, and weary that you are spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally weak.

“RETURN TO YOUR REST, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.” -Psalm 116:7

Our Sabbath Rest was given to help us to remember that the Lord is Good. He is the one who rescued us from slavery. He is the one who guides us through desert seasons. He is the one who provides for us. He is the one who is always faithful to us.

On your rest day, be sure to do something ENJOYABLE for YOU. Rest will look different for each person so find whatever works for you. Your rest day should be a day to just chill out and relax from our very busy lives. Maybe read a book, go hiking, sleep, sit in the woods, have some friends over, or watch some tv, just make sure whatever it is doesn’t go against God’s word. While you do these things be sure to dwell on Him while you do it. Talk with Him, or simply thank Him!

God is saying to you today, REST my child. While you are resting, I can handle your world for a day. Your long to-do list can wait. This day of rest is to remind you that I am actually the one in charge of your life and I want to see if you trust me. I long to spend time with you. Will you be faithful and rest in Me today?

Pray with us: Father, forgive us for not being obedient to You. Forgive us for not taking a day where we just have some time alone for ourselves. Forgive us for not doing something enjoyable with you. Thank you, God, that you're the kind of father that loves us so much. That you gave us a day of rest with no guilt. A day to just chill out and relax from our very busy, hard, weeks and our hard lives. We honor you today because it's incredible that you've given us this permission to rest. Help us to remember to rest in your presence every single week.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
