Enemies of the Sabbath part 2

We learned in the last sermon that the first enemy of the Sabbath is a religious spirit.

The second enemy of the Sabbath is 'BUSYNESS'.
Busyness ultimately causes us to stop caring about the things we really care about. When we are so busy who is getting neglected because of your busyness? God, your spouse, your children, friends, maybe even yourself? The point of your life is people/others. God wanted the Sabbath to be a time with HIM and others. Sabbath rest creates space for us to slow down and remember what truly matters and borders us from allowing busyness to rob us of being with and knowing God.

The third enemy of the Sabbath is 'Pride'.
Pride is the delusion that 'I can do this quite well by myself, thank you very much.'
Pride blinds us to our need for rest, margin, and quiet. It deceives us into thinking that everything is just fine... 'other people may need a day off but I do okay without it. I'm FINE.'
Pride deludes us into thinking that 'I have control over things. I affect my outcomes. I can set my course. I can take care of myself.' Pride will blind, deceive, and erode you into thinking that you only need you. That you are the god of your universe.

A Sabbath rest is a day set aside to kill a religious spirit, busyness, and pride in us. It reminds us of what is important - God and others!

The fourth enemy of the Sabbath is 'drivenness'.
People who are driven are motivated, determined, compelled, hardworking, and ambitious. These are all great traits to have. However, who is driving you? What is motivating you? Where are you so determined and compelled to go? Why are you so hardworking and ambitious?

A common characteristic of those who are driven is that they forget their ultimate purpose. They lose focus and eventually veer off on a journey of their own making. When you are driven it can become all about you and what you want to accomplish...instead of all about God. His needs. His plans.

We looked at the passage in Matthew 25:31-46. There is a 'right side' of God. Being on the right side of God allows us to be blessed eternally. It's all about someone else who is in need. Someone who may just need your stuff to help them get through a tough season in their life to leverage what God has blessed you with for His kingdom. The people on the right side of God have learned to rest in God and don't live a life with closed fists.

Verses 35 & 36 highlights what we SHOULD BE driven to accomplish. We will look for God all around us, throughout our entire day in others. We will look for God moments!
The only way we will see them is if we are actually looking for them. If all you see is behavior in people you won't see God in people.

A sign that you may be driven by the wrong spirit is that if the people that God is placing in your presence are annoying to you and in your way. That's when you know that people have become objects to you. You believe that they are keeping you from something 'more important' and that people are only beneficial to you if you get something from them.

The Question today is… have we become too busy, too driven, too prideful, too isolated, and too selfcentered for the very thing that Jesus died for? (people/souls)

The fifth enemy of the Sabbath rest is 'unsubmissiveness'
We are talking about an unsubmissive heart. A heart that is not in submission to God in ALL THINGS is a heart in rebellion.

John 15:13-14 says:
"Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if YOU DO WHAT I COMMAND YOU."

“If you love me, KEEP MY COMMANDS.”
John 14 : 15

An Unsubmissive Heart lives by this Motto: 'I can just enjoy myself, relax, and do what I wish.'

A submissive Heart says: 'God, I will accept your gift to me. (the Sabbath) I receieve it as a source of blessing for me and I will practice the Sabbath.
