We Wrestle With Not Flesh and Blood Part 5
We learned in the last sermons that the powers of hell shall not prevail against you unless you allow and invite them to. Neither can sin unless you invite it, entertain it, or feed it. Sin should not still be alive in us because Jesus Christ sets us free from the power of sin.
If an addiction/sin is ruling you, you are not truly alive. You are just on pause, walking around like a zombie. You're not the real, best version of you.
Romans 6 : 6-7
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Which means that… we no longer serve sin. If you do, then IT is your master, not God. - OUCH.
Is it possible to not sin? The answer is yes...at least not on purpose with the help of the Holy Spirit. But if we are honest, 99.9% of all our sin is planned. We all fall short of the glory of God, but that is not a reason to keep on sinning. God knew that His children would excuse their sin with the saying, "well no one is perfect...so why try?" It is the devil's plan with sin to create so-called 'Christians' who have not witness/testimony/light to combat the darkness. Satan's plan is to make you irrelevant, so wrapped up in sin that you are no good to anyone. So that the church, Jesus, God, and salvation are irrelevant, to create a world where everyone struggles to find purpose in life. Satan has to work and scheme to come up with his plan with lies and deception but we don't have to figure out a thing because God already laid out a plan for us.
Romans 12-14: Do not let sin control the way you live, do not give into sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master for you no longer live under the requirements of the law, you live under the freedom of Gods grace.
Remember, God is building you and the powers of hell and sin shall not prevail against you. So if there is a sin or addiction that is still alive in you then stop feeding it and it will die, but you will live. It may take some hard work for some of our addictions/sin patterns but you will finally be alive.
Did you know that Eagles can live up to 70 years because they are mentally strong? After 40 years every eagle has to make a difficult decision...it's claws become no longer sharp enough to hunt. Its beak becomes bent and blunt. Its feathers become too thick. The eagle at this stage of life has two options: either it dies, or it goes through a painful change. The eagle must go to the mountain and crush its beak on a rock until it falls out so the new beak will grow in. With the new beak, the eagle rips out its claws and new ones grow in. Then the eagle plucks out its feathers so that new ones grow in. This painful journey lasts 150 days.
The point is, sometimes we need to get rid of our old self in order for a new and better version to emerge. If you're up for the fight for your soul, you will grow every day. You may have to painfully rip out old things in order to walk in new things. But with God, all things are possible.
